Character animation, whatever the medium, is not just about movement, but about acting.
Whoever the character, the goal is the same — to create a thinking, believable individual whom the audience connects with.
While character animation is about expressing an actor’s inner thoughts and feelings, even inanimate objects or graphical elements can benefit from an injection of personality. Choreography becomes more interesting to an audience when there is motivation behind the movement.
Although I began my career with a pencil I realized the potential of computer animation and was an early adopter, using that technology to create characters and worlds never before possible. As we begin to navigate the new world of AI in entertainment, I again embrace the new while respecting and striving for what has traditionally made audiences fall in love with the characters whose journeys they follow.
